Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc, Hercules, Calif, a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, is offering a product application note detailing how its ProteoMiner protein enrichment kits concentrate and enrich low- and medium-abundance proteins for biomarker discovery.

Titled “Accessing Low-Abundance Proteins in Serum and Plasma with a Novel, Simple Enrichment and Depletion Method,” the six-page note (bulletin 5632) describes how the kit represents a sample preparation method that concentrates low-abundance proteins and reduces the dynamic range of protein concentrations in samples. The paper demonstrates how use of the kits in a SELDI- or 2DGE-based proteomics workflow can increase peak or spot counts from plasma and serum samples by 30 to 50%, which allows detection and mass spec identification of medium- and low-abundance proteins.

The note is available from the company and can be downloaded from its Web site.
