IBM, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), and Rutgers University will collaborate to develop diagnostic tools to improve the accuracy of predicting patients’ responses to treatment.

The collaborators hope to determine more accurate cancer prognoses, develop personalized therapy planning, and discover new drugs using computer and imaging technologies, according to CINJ.

The partnership is an extension of the Help Defeat Cancer project, in which IBM’s World Community Grid was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of characterizing different types and stages of disease.
