The Caregiver TouchFree clinical thermometer from Thermomedics, Miami, is a noncontact, clinical-grade infrared thermometer for measurement of forehead temperature in adults, children, and infants. Following growing concern over Ebola and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) infections, parent company Sanomedics International Holdings has reported growing demand for the device, which reads naturally emitted infrared radiation from the subject’s body without employing any laser energy.
Keith Houlihan, president of Sanomedics, noted that the company has sent multiple shipments of the thermometers in recent days to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, as well as to other enterprise customers for use in corporate healthcare centers. He emphasized that the company will work to assist all segments of the CDC, National Institutes of Health, the Department of Homeland Security, and general healthcare facilities in their efforts to reduce the risk of contact and the spread of diseases.
The Caregiver TouchFree thermometer delivers results within 1 to 2 seconds and can measure both ambient temperature and skin or surface temperature with the flick of a switch. The device requires no probe cover or charger base, and can generate up to 15,000 temperature readings from one set of AA batteries.
