Watson Marlow 120 Pump WMPG_640Peristaltic Pump Range
Suited to single-use systems
Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group, Wilmington, Mass, has launched its 120 peristaltic pump range, which is suited to single-use systems where no contamination can be accepted. Ultra-compact and stackable for multiple feeds like pH control, antifoam, nutrient, and buffer addition, the range seeks to optimize workflow processes. Features include an intuitive interface, illuminated numeric speed display, a 2,000:1 speed range (speed accuracy ±1%), a hygienic enclosure, and a selection of USP Class VI tubes. Understanding that benchtop space is at a premium, pumps measure just 110 mm in width, which is significantly smaller than most pumps offering similar flow rates. A new 114 pumphead enables a spring-loaded flip-top track to secure repetitive flow and pressure performance. The pumphead ensures error-free tube changing, with tubing clamped and tensioned automatically to ensure repeatable performance. Available with three different models for fixed speed, manual, or remote auto control, the range comes with five single and multichannel pumpheads. Pumps are IP31 rated and carry a 3-year warranty.

[MISCELLENEOUS SUPPLIES]

ViroStat_HPVHPV Monoclonal Antibodies
Function in ELISAs
ViroStat Inc, Portland, Maine, has released a set of monoclonal antibodies to human papillomavirus (HPV) L1 capsid proteins. Several are specific to type 16 and type 18, and others are pan-specific, reacting with all types tested. All function in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, with some usable in immunohistochemistry assays and others in western blot immunoassays. DNA viruses that infect human epithelial cells, HPV consists of several types, some of which cause common skin warts while others are known to increase cancer risk. Sexually transmitted HPV can cause genital warts and cervical cancer. Several vaccines are based upon the L1 major virus capsid proteins of the high-risk HPV types.

www.venmarkinternational.comCentrifuge Cell Windows
Made from sapphire, quartz
Meller Optics Inc, Providence, RI, has produced a line of ultraviolet cell windows that are formulated from sapphire and single-crystal quartz for use with Beckman Coulter centrifuges and other instruments. The centrifuge cell windows are made from sapphire to resist chemicals, scratching, and high pressure, and from single-crystal quartz for less demanding applications. Designed to allow full contents viewing with Beckman centrifuges and other instruments, they are available wedged 1°or 2° and plano, with chamfers 0.20/0 mm x 45??in two places. They feature an arrow scribed on their edge that projects the optic access for easy alignment. Sapphire windows measure 19.03 mm. ± 0.3 mm wide x 0.5mm ±0.10mm thick, and have a 30-5 scratch-dig surface finish. Quartz windows have a 10-5 finish with a central clear aperture of 16 mm, and both types are suitable for original equipment manufacturer and field-replacement use.

[TESTING/DIAGNOSTICS]

Verax PGD Platelet_500Platelet Test
Detects bacterial contamination
The Verax platelet PGD test from Verax Biomedical, Marlborough, Mass, is a rapid test for the detection of bacterial contamination in platelets intended for transfusion. Used on the day of transfusion at the point of care, the test is an immunoassay that quickly detects bacterial contamination in platelets and protects patients from receiving contaminated transfusions. Compared to pathogen inactivation technologies, the test is a more cost-effective and less-invasive approach to platelet bacterial safety. The Verax Platelet PGD test was first cleared by FDA in 2007 for detecting bacterial contamination in leukoreduced apheresis platelets and in 2009 for use with whole-blood derived platelets. FDA has now cleared the test as a safety measure to check two additional platelet types: pre-storage pool platelets, and apheresis platelets in PAS-C additive solution and plasma.
