Stroke Diagnostics: Needs, Expectations and Possibilities

AACC presents a Webinar

Stroke Diagnostics: Needs, Expectations and Possibilities
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
2:00-2:50 pm Eastern (US) Time

Realizing that IVD tests could help clinicians rapidly tell the difference between stroke and other conditions that mimic its symptoms, researchers are evaluating a number of diagnostic markers, examining how they perform alone and in panels. The ultimate goal is to definitively identify those who have suffered stroke within three hours of the onset of symptoms, so that therapeutic drugs can be administered and patient outcomes can be significantly improved.

Participate in this interactive Webinar and hear Dr. Robert Christenson discuss:

  • Recent AHA and American Stroke Association Stroke Council guidelines for ischemic stroke diagnosis and management
  • The attributes of the “ideal” stroke biomarker or panel of biomarker
  • Diagnostic strategies that may one day contribute to the determination of long-term cerebrovascular risk and assessment of suspected stroke patients
  • The roles markers such as Lp-PLA2, NMDA-receptor autoantibodies, and NR2A could play in stroke diagnosis and risk assessment
  • Early results of proteomic research into a panel of possible biomarkers for stroke

About the Webinar Presenter

Dr. Robert Christenson, PhD, DABCC, FACB, is Professor of Pathology and Professor of Medical and Research Technology at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, and Director of the Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology, and Rapid Response Laboratories at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he is also Director of Point of Care Services. Target Audience

Laboratory administrators, directors, managers, pathologists, emergency department physicians and all others who want to know about how emerging markers could affect stroke diagnosis in the future.
