Mycobacteria growth indicator

System converted to plastic tubes

This company has announced the conversion of its BBL Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tubes (MGIT) to plastic. The plastic system will offer a safer procedure. It also uses no needles or isotopes from the stages of inoculation to test completion.
The BBL MGIT System is a rapid manual method for the growthand detection of mycobacteria from clinical specimens. The process begins by inoculating the tube with a pretreated specimen and then incubating it. Under ultraviolet light, growth is indicated by an unmistakable orange fluorescent glow.
The system requires no additional incubator capacity, and provides a visually distinct result with equivalent performance to the BACTEC 460TB system.
