The Staphaurex kit is a rapid slide agglutination test for differentiating Staphylococcus aureus from other staphylococci. The principal of the kit relies on latex particles, sensitized to agglutinate in the presence of clumping factor and protein A.
     A dense suspension of white latex particles gives a strong, clear-cut reaction on the included black test cards. The 3-step procedure is rapid and results can be read in approximately 30 seconds. The test has a sensitivity of 99.8 percent and specificity of 99.5 percent with a positive predictive value of 99.6 percent.
