ß-Hydroxybutyrate reagent
To determine treatment for diabetic coma
This company offers a reagent for the determination of ß-Hydroxybutyrate, a ketoacid present in greatest amounts in serum. In diabetics, the measurement of ß¡-Hydroxybutyrate along with blood glucose is needed for the assessment of the severity of diabetic coma and is essential for the exclusion of hyperosmolar non-ketotic diabetic coma. Thus, insulin requirements are often based on the extent of the existing hyperketonemia shown by the blood levels of ß-Hydroxybutyrate. In this method, ß-Hydroxybutyrate in the presence of NAD gets converted to acetoacetate and NADH. The NADH produced is converted to color using INT and diaphorase and read at 505 nm. The reagent kit includes the 2 reagents and a standard. A liquid stable control set is also available. Pointe Scientific, Inc. www.CLPmag.com Keywords: reagent, diabetes
