This fully automated individual vial retrieval (IVR) sample storage system provides automated access to individual vials stored at temperatures down to -80ºC.
     The IVR system is engineered to enable lab technicians to store, receive and process individual vials. It offers a high-speed conveyer system that shuttles samples to one or more Vial Handlers (VH). The Vial Handlers re-rack, scan, weigh and sort vials, which are kept frozen as they are sorted.
     Samples are stored in secure freezer chambers. The VH can scan and identify an entire rack of minitubes in one operation. In addition, the VH features an internal electric balance that automatically weighs each vial as it enters or returns from the system.
     The sample storage system features a touchscreen interface that catalogs samples, provides point of contact and tracks chain of custody. User IDs and passwords provide enhanced security.
