New cardiac webinars series

pn01.jpg (9511 bytes)A new series of Webinars focused on cardiac markers is being offered to clinical laboratorians in an online curriculum format. Available at www.beckmancoulter.com/labquality under “Personnel,” the new cardiac Webinars include two 30-minute courses.
The first course, “Getting to the Heart of Cardiovascular Disease,” discusses the pathogenesis of the disease and the use of cardiac markers, including troponin, as well as provides an overview of current literature regarding the redefinition of myocardial infarction. In addition, the Webinar compares troponin assays with other techniques used in the diagnosis of acute coronary syndromes.
The second course, “Troponin Utilization in Risk Stratification,” reviews troponin assay performance characteristics such as sensitivity and precision, as well as the upper reference limit of normal, acute myocardial infarction cutoffs and the meaning of the “indeterminate” or “gray” zone. The course also discusses the use of troponin testing for risk stratification.
Webinars are accredited by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education (P.A.C.E) program. Continuing education credits are offered at US$20 per unit. Individual course viewing is free.
