Rapid differential diagnostic kit for research use

pn20.jpg (11009 bytes)The Multiplex Analysis System for Acute Respiratory Infections provides differential diagnosis, allowing doctors to identify if a patient’s acute respiratory infection is caused by the SARS virus or any of nine other common infections. The new SARS differential diagnostic kit allows ten tests to be simultaneously performed in one patient sample, thereby saving significant time and resources. Whereas conducting each test individually would take up to 30 hours to complete, the new test can be completed in just 3 hours.
The Multiplex Analysis System for Acute Respiratory Infections diagnostic test uses a method called “multiplex RT-PCR” to implement the differential diagnosis necessary for more accurate identification. The method makes millions of copies of ten potential microorganisms, and then uses a “beads-based array” technology to discover if a patient has SARS or one of the other nine possible infections, including Respiratory syncytial virus (types A and B, Parainfluenza virus type 1, Parainfluenza virus type 3, Influenza A (5 different strains), Influenza B (two strains), Enterovirus, Adenovirus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae.
This test is currently for research use only.
