Serum Free Light Chain Assays, a new 136-page book by A.R. Bradwell, describes the development of serum free light chain assays, details current trials and publications, and describes the clinical utility of the assays. It compares the sensitivity of serum free light chain assays with SPE, IFE, CZE, UPE, and total Kappa and Lambda assays, and describes the advantages of the Freelite Free Kappa and Lambda assays. The sensitivity of the assay in serum suggests that 24-hour urine UPE assays may rarely be required for diagnosis and monitoring of light chain or non-secretory myeloma patients.
According to this book, data shows that Freelite chain assays can be used to detect up to 96% of all myeloma patients, 100% of light chain multiple myeloma patients, and 82% of nonsecretory multiple myeloma patients. Data presented suggesting that due to the short half life of free light chains in serum, free light chain assays may be an earlier indicator of response to therapy, remission, or predictors of progression.
Free copies of the book are available to professionals involved in the research, diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment of myeloma patients.
