BD Diagnostic Systems has announced the release of the BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus, a chromogenic medium that utilizes an enzymatic reaction to isolate and identify S. aureus without additional confirmatory testing. BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus produces mauve-colored colonies with the growth of S. aureus, and requires less technologist time. BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus is the latest addition to the BBL CHROMagar™ media line, which already includes CHROMagar™ Orientation, CHROMagar™ Candida, and CHROMagar™ Salmonella.
     By eliminating the need to subculture to a nonselective medium, BBL™ CHROMagar Staph aureus reduces costs, enhances workflow, and allows susceptibility results to be reported earlier.
