Test Kits

For the determination of apolipoproteins A1 and B

New test kits for the determination of each of the apolipoproteins A1 & B are available. apolipoprotein A1 is the major protein of HDL and Apolipoprotein B comprises 90% of the LDL protein mass. Distribution of cholesterol between high-density lipoprotein (HDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is important in determining risk for coronary artery disease; therefore, the measurement of both constituents is considered to be useful in early diagnosis. Recent studies have suggested that the determination of apolipoprotein B is a better indicator. Also, quantitation of apo ipoprotein B is important in identifying those individuals who have elevated Apo lipoprotein B levels despite having normal plasma levels of LDL cholesterol.
Both test kits incorporate immunoturbidimetric methodology and have been adapted for use on most automated chemistry analyzers. An insoluble turbid immunoprecipitate is formed by the reaction between antibody-antigen activity. The resulting turbidity is measured spectrophotometrically at 340 nm.
Kits are available in a 150 mL liquid stable reagent. Calibrator sets and control sets are also available.
