Lyme-Confirmation Assays

Using in vivo expressed antigens

Borrelia EcoLine, a new generation of Lyme-confirmation assays, shows high sensitivity and specificity using in vivo expressed antigens. The test is a line immunoassay for the confirmation of borderline or positive results of Lyme patients after a sensitive sera screening assay. One of the main antigens on the nitrocellulose strip is VIsE to detect the early antibody responses of the immune system after infection with Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto. With an EBV-exclusion marker, false-positive reactions with EBV-polyclonal stimulated patients can be avoided.
The Borrelia EcoLine is performed like a Western Blot assay; all controls are on a single strip. The product is CE-marked, but currently available for the US market for research use only. Studies show sensitivity of 84.7% for EM/ECM, 92.3% for neuroborreliosis, and 100% for ACA and arthritis. Control groups showed a specificity of 96.3%.
