PlasDIC, a polarization-optical differential interference contrast system designed for use with plastic dishes for microscopic examinations, is now available for use in the routine observation of living cells and for micromanipulation. PlasDIC can be used in cellular or molecular biology laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, or institutes for reproductive medicine.
PlasDIC examinations deliver optical images of thick cells that lie in close proximity or form groups. The relief-like image impression is typical of this technique. Unlike phase contrast, brilliant contrasting of thick cell areas can be realized. When using the PlasDIC contrast system, there is no need to dispense with inexpensive plastic dishes that are beneficial for cell growth. Specific cell characteristics during growth, interaction, apoptosis, and death can now be more easily recognized.
