Optimizer-blueBALLS™, glass balls coated with hydrophobic blue dye, behave like membrane proteins. The user adds the balls in extraction protocol and observes the progress of extraction as the dye begins to solubilize or extract into the extraction buffer. Extraction of the dye occurs only when micelles are present in the extraction buffer, giving a visual guide for extraction. The test allows visual feedback for optimal time and extraction procedures. Optimizer-blueBALLS can be used in protocol or to set up mock controls and observe progress of extraction for optimization.
