The COBAS AmpliScreen™ HIV-1 v.1.5 and HCV tests utilize Roche’s polymerase chain reaction–based nucleic acid–based technology. The tests are qualitative in vitro tests for the direct detection of hepatitis C virus RNA and human immunodeficiency virus RNA in human plasma from donations of whole blood and blood components for transfusions. The tests are intended for use in screening donor samples of human plasma or pools of human plasma comprised of equal aliquots of less than 24 individual donations.
