The ProbeTec™ ET legionella pneumophila DNA amplified assay is designed for the detection of L. pneumophila and performs amplification and real-time detection in a 1-hour format. In addition, the assay provides an improvement over current diagnostic assays because culture takes at least 3 days and the urinary antigent test for L.pneumophila may miss as much as 20% of L.pneumophila. The assay reduces the mortality associated with Legionnaire’s disease and decreases antimicrobial resistance by making it possible earlier in the disease course to use directed therapy against the organism once it is detected.
