The BBL™ CHROMagar™ MRSA from BD Diagnostics offers high sensitivity and specificity for methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) identification. The test uses a chromogenic technology that permits the detection of MRSA using chromogenic substrates and cephalosporin. MRSA strains grow in the presence of antibiotics and produce mauve-colored colonies, which result from hydrolysis of the chromogenic substrates. This technology is designed to require less technologist time and improve laboratory workflow. The BBL CHROMagar MRSA allows for the direct detection and identification of most MRSA within 24 hours, or 48 hours with a confirmatory test.
