Cargille Labs offers two formulas for stabilizing urine samples: Stabilur® tablets, used for microscopic examination and urine chemistry, and Cult-Ur™ tablets used for culture and identification of urinary tract infection (UTI) bacteria. The Stabilur tablets maintain red and white blood cells in their original condition, preventing rapid lysis of leukocytes and permitting accurate counting and estimation of erythrocytes. Additionally, the tablets maintain the morphology of typical formed elements in urine sediment such as casts, crystals, and mucous threads. The Cult-Ur tablets maintain bacterial viability at room temperature for up to 72 hours, as well as normal growth and chemical ID characters of UTI bacteria. The tablets also minimize growth of patient-introduced contaminants because they maintain levels for at least 24 hours.
