RAM Scientific’s self-sealing capillary blood-collection tubes are a safety improvement for laboratories that use cap-piercing analyzers for their hematology testing. Cap pierceable tubes reduce the chances of accidental contact for increased safety, and they prevent contamination of the blood sample for improved quality. All SAFE-T-FILL capillary blood-collection tubes are cap pierceable. The new self-sealing cap further increases laboratory-worker safety by preventing blood from spilling, ejecting, or splashing after the analyzer probe has pierced the cap. Additionally, SAFE-T-FILL purple-top tubes use the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formally NCCLS) recommended liquid dipotassium EDTA as its additive. The availability of 100% plastic capillary blood-collection tubes with self-sealing caps is increasingly necessary as hospitals and laboratories continue to deploy cap-piercing analyzers. The tubes can be purchased in a bag containing 50 tubes or in a case of 500 tubes in volumes of either 125 µL (item 07 6013) or 200 µL (item 07 7056).
