Computype Inc, St Paul, Minn, introduces the Spirit 2100 portable printing system, a battery-powered, portable device that provides thermal transfer printing for permanent labels used in a variety of lab applications such as labeling tubes, vials, plates, and slides. The system offers an alternative to handwritten labels that are often illegible or deteriorate with time. Users can preview the label as it is being created to help ensure accuracy and improve efficiency. The text is displayed on an LCD screen and shows an outline of the label. Users can change text sizes, import graphic images, or change fonts to complete the label design. Once finished, the user chooses between several print sizes before printing. The unit can be synched to a PC to download data files from Excel and other Windows-compatible databases. An edit-logging feature keeps track of printed labels and downloads printed information back to the PC.
