Retic-Chex Linearity

Immediate verification

The Retic-Chex Linearity from Streck, Omaha, Neb, now includes assay values for the new Sysmex XE-5000 hematology analyzer. Designed to verify the accuracy and linear reportable range of the retic parameter, Retic-Chex Linearity’s instrument-specific assay values offer immediate verification without calculations. The product’s 5-day open-vial stability offers customers the flexibility to run the product on more than one instrument. Complete linearity and calibration verification reports are provided at no additional charge, which is useful for demonstrating compliance for CLIA and CAP regulations. The product is also assayed for the Sysmex XE-2100™, XT 2000i™, and the Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics ADVIA® 120/2120.

ProteSEEKER

Identifies destructive proteases

ProteSEEKER™ from G-Biosciences, St Louis, identifies specific types of proteases with a panel of 12 protease inhibitors and a sensitive colorimetric protease-screening assay. It allows researchers to screen their protein samples and establish which specific class of proteases are present, and therefore design a highly specific protease inhibitor cocktail using the minimal number of protease inhibitors. Alternatively, it can be used to test existing protease inhibitor cocktails and identify their inadequacies, and therefore supplement in additional protease inhibitors. The screening assay consists of a ready-to-use dye-labeled protein, which is digested by proteases to release dye-labeled peptides, the absorbance of which is measured for determination of protease activity. The inhibitors are supplied at a 100X concentration, and the 1X concentration provides >90% inhibition in most biological samples.

RAPID Stain

Ultrasensitive protein stain

RAPID Stain™ from G-Biosciences, St Louis, is an ultrasensitive and ready-to-use protein stain based on Coomassie dye. It has a one-step protocol in which no mixing or preparation is involved—simply rinse gel, add the stain, and protein bands develop within 5 to 10 minutes and reach a maximum visibility in 1 hour. RAPID Stain stains only protein, leaving a crystal-clear background, resulting in high band visibility. The gels require no destaining and are sensitive enough to detect as little as 4 ng to 8 ng BSA. Staining shows a linear response for densitometric gel analysis, and produce sharp scanning or photographic results. It is supplied in a 1-liter container with sufficient reagent to stain up to 50 mini gels (8 x 10 cm), or as a 1-gallon container for staining up to 200 mini gels.

Paper on Volume and Precipitate Identification

Visual system makes calculations more exact

RTS Life Science, Manchester, UK, offers a free of charge technical paper about the analysis of sample volumes in a store. Entitled “Applying Vision Technology to Calculate the Volume of Sample in a Tube,” the informative poster discusses the benefits of RTS’ innovative vision system technology. The detailed paper describes how RTS partnered with a major pharmaceutical company to upgrade its tube store with a visual system that routinely and accurately audits tubes to calculate sample volumes and identify any particulate matter—allowing the company to calculate the volume of liquid to an accuracy of +/- 10ul. The paper is now available free of charge in downloadable PDF format online.

HOOK Biotin Kits

For optimization of reaction conditions

HOOK™ Biotin kits from G-Biosciences, St Louis, are supplied with all the necessary reagents, equipment, and instructions for optimization of reaction conditions, such as efficient labeling, removal of unbound biotin, and quantification of biotin labeling. A large selection of the kits are offered, owing to the wide selection of biotin reagents available. The reagents couple to primary amines, secondary amines, sulfhydryl groups, carboxyl groups, carbohydrate groups, DNA, or RNA; and have variation in solubility, chain length, membrane permeability, and presence of cleavable disulfide bonds. A microdialysis system is used for the equilibration of your sample for optimal reaction conditions and for rapid removal of unbound biotin. It is specifically designed so that the entire labeling process is achieved in a single tube, ensuring no protein loss. In addition to the unique microdialysis system, the kits also offer the advantage of being supplied with a specific Optimizer Buffer™, which is specifically formulated to provide the optimal conditions to ensure the highest biotin coupling efficiency.

ThermalSeal RTS

Ideal for qPCR and protein crystallization

Based on patented 3M® 9795 material, the new ThermalSeal RTS™ films from Excel Scientific, Victorville, Calif, combine clear 50 µm polyolefin with a 50 µm encapsulated silicone adhesive layer. This unique construction can provide ideal performance in real-time qPCR, crystallization, and storage applications. The chemically inert silicone is non-tacky for easy handling until pressed to a microplate, releasing adhesive in sealing areas only. Adhesion is the strongest available for evaporation protection. The films are RNase and DNase free, DMSO resistant, and exhibit minimal auto-fluorescence. The films are sized to fit within the rim of any standard raised-rim plate.
